Club Singles Champions 2025/26 – Donna Leeson and Murray Gannon

In almost perfect conditions this afternoon, Victoria Bowling Club held the finals of their Club Championship singles.

In the Women’s final, we had a rematch of last year’s decider, between Helene Stenning and Donna Leeson and in the Men’s final, last year’s runner-up Murray Gannon up against Wes Lennecke.

With unusually calm conditions for the first half of the games, the standard was incredibly high, with both the Women’s and Men’s scores mirroring each other after the first 7 ends, with scores level.

Strong easterly winds made an appearance 10 ends in and changed the complex of both matches, with a few numbers picked up in both games and Donna and Murray creeping ahead.

Managing to complete very tight heads despite the wind, Donna and Helene battled back and forth for shot. With Donna consistently achieving multiple close bowls, she prevailed in the end, collecting her second title in 3 seasons.

In the Men’s, Murray was flourishing in the windy conditions and found himself quickly leaping into the 20s and a handy lead. While Wes was picking up 1 and 2 shots per end to try and peg back the lead, Murray was matching him and landed on the doorstep of victory with shots up his sleeve on 24.

On multiple ends, Wes found himself down match against seemingly perfectly constructed heads by Murray, but Wes continued to find the shots to keep the match going – and in fact if not for a great drive from Murray – he would’ve tied the game at 24. Getting the 1 shot that he needed on the next end, Murray claimed the title, his first at Victoria Bowling Club.

Congratulations to our two worthy Champions, Donna and Murray. We wish them the best of bowling when they represent the Big V at the Champion of Champions.
