Micah Oswin captures the Bill Holmes Ballarat Junior Singles Championship Title for 2025

As expected, this evening’s final of the Bill Holmes Ballarat Junior Singles Championship was an absolutely brilliant display of lawn bowls and a demonstration of what can be achieved with passion and dedication.

Our two Ballarat Highlands Gold Diggers squad leaders, Addy Ryan (Deer Park) and Micah Oswin played out the closest of results last year and early stages of this match it was obvious that it would go down to the wire again.

Addy had a dream start, 5 up after 2 ends, before Micah hit back with the next 3 ends for his first lead.

Collecting 6 of the next 8 ends, Micah jumped out to the largest differential of the game (14-9). However, after his loosest end of the match on the 14th end, Addy zoned in collecting a 4, then a single on the next to level the game at 14 all, before stretching the length to maximum and pushing out to a 19-15 lead.

Over the last few ends, very few bowls were outside a metre and shot was changing from bowl to bowl, but Micah was doing just enough to win the end.
Addy played a clutch conversion shot with her last bowl on the 25th end to collect shot when down match to get to 20-24.

Putting 2 bowls within a foot, it looked like Addy was set to repeat a comeback equal to last year, however, with his last bowl, Micah held his nerve, drove at the 2 bowls, dislodging the bowls and moving the jack far enough to get shot and secure his first Bill Holmes title.

So incredibly proud of these two champions for the spirit this game was played in and those who witnessed it were treated to the highest of quality match.

Thank you to Bill’s family for their continued support of this event and both of our finalists acknowledged your support after the game.

Victoria was represented by Jack Lennecke, Billie Lennecke, Charlotte Morris and Jaxon Hunt.
